My Philosophy
I believe in a relationship-based approach to therapy meaning that it is important to me to establish a place of trust, mutual respect, support and healing with my clients. I strive to teach my clients skills that will not only get them through difficult life circumstances but will be useful throughout their life.
My career has been dedicated to working primarily with women and families with young children in a variety of settings. I have over 25 years of experience in the field of social work providing both client care and clinical supervision to others.
My passions include supporting women and families through adjustment to early parenthood, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders including postpartum depression, complicated pregnancy, traumatic birth, infertility, miscarriage and infant loss, medically fragile infants, infant mental health, and bonding and attachment.
My approach is a balance of discussion and reflection with practical skill building. I draw from the concepts of interpersonal therapy, infant mental health therapy, attachment theory, psychoanalytic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion, strengths-based approach, motivational interviewing and stages of change. I have also completed training in EMDR and am actively working towards certification.
